The San Jose Sharks have announced that netminders Thomas Greiss, Dimitri Patzold, and right wings Mike Iggulden, Lukas Kaspar will be attending the Worcester training camp that starts on Monday.
This will be the first season in North America for goaltender Thomas Greiss. He was selected in the third round of the 2004 draft. He played in 27 games last year for the Cologne Sharks in the DEL. Thomas is one of the best prospects for goalies in Europe.
This will be the 4th season in the United States for netminder Dimitri Patzold. Like Greiss, he too played for the Cologne Sharks in the DEL. Last season was a disappointing season while playing for the Cleveland Barons, with a record of 10-21 and a save percentage of .869%. He was selected by the Sharks in the 4th round of the 2001 NHL draft.
Mike Iggulden will be returning to the AHL again this season with the Sharks. He spent 4 years at Cornell University before signing an ATO to finish out the 2004-05 season with the Rochester Americans. He was invited to the Sharks camp last and found himself a contract. He signed as a free agent with the sharks on January 16th, 2006. Last year for the Barons he played in 77 games scoring 22 goals and adding 26 assist.
Lukas Kaspar was a first round draft pick for the Sharks back in the 2004 draft. The young right winger from the Czech Republic skated 76 games last year in a Barons uniform, scoring 14 goals and receiving 88 penalty minutes. Lukas just turned 20 on the 3rd of September.
SHARKS PRESEASON-
The San Jose Sharks are now 2-1 this preseason after picking up a 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks last night in Fresno, California. Former Holy Cross stand out Patrick Rissmiller scored for the Sharks during the second period. Craig Valette who will probably be sent down to Worcester also scored a goal when he redirected a Josh Gorges slap shot past Michael Leighton. Thomas Plihal, who is still looking to earn a spot on the big club, scored the game winner with 12 minutes left in the game. Their next game is Tuesday night as they travel up to British Columbia to take on the Vancouver Canucks.
