Sharks Sign 07 First Round Draft Pick
SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has signed center Logan Couture, the team’s first round (ninth overall) selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, to an NHL contract. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Couture has spent the last two seasons with the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League. This past season, the Guelph, Ontario native ranked second on the team in points (78) and goals (26) and first in assists (52) in 54 games.
In five post season games, he lead the 67’s in points with eight (one goal, seven assists) in five games.In 2005-06, Couture led all Ottawa rookies in goals (25), assists (39) and points (64). His 64 points were third best overall on the team and third most for any OHL rookie. In six post season games, he led the 67’s in points with seven (three goals, four assists) in six games.
“We’ve followed Logan’s career and he comes from a great program,” said Wilson of the six-foot-one, 195-pount Couture. “Brian Kilrea and his staff always do a great job developing players. We worked hard to acquire Logan in the draft and we truly look forward to his progression as a player. He is a fine young man and we are happy to have him as part of our organization.”
